About the Author
Am 20. August 1953 wurde ich in Schottenstein, der jetzigen Gemeinde Itzgrund im südlichen Landkreis Coburg geboren. Nach sechs Jahren Grundschule in Schottenstein, besuchte ich 1965 - 1967 die Verbandshauptschule in Bodelstadt. Auf dem elterlichen 9 ha kleinen landwirtschaftlichen Betrieb erlernte ich, nicht ganz freiwillig, von 1967 bis 1971 den Beruf des Landwirtes und schloss diese Lehre mit einer Gehilfenprüfung ab. Vom 1. Oktober 1974 bis Ende Dezember 1975 leistete ich beim Jägerbataillon in Ebern meinem Wehrdienst ab. Da es mit der Landwirtschaft rückläufig wurde und es mit 9 ha Eigenbesitz kaum eine Zukunft gab, konnte ich am 1. Juli 1977 eine Stelle in den einfachen Dienst beim Staatlichen Vermessungsamt in Coburg antreten, wo ich natürlich auch heute noch beschäftigt bin. Am 5. November 1977 heiratete ich, aus dieser Ehe gingen 3 Söhne hervor. Schon seit 1979 präsentiere ich für die Volkshochschulen und seit ein paar Jahren auch Privat Selbsterarbeitete Beamervorträge zu den verschiedensten Themenbereichen. Mir macht es sichtlich Freude, meine Erlebnisse und Erfahrungen im Bezug auf hervorzuhebende Landschaften mit ihren Sehenswürdigkeiten anderen Menschen zu übermitteln. Seit 2014 erstelle ich für meinem Kundenkreis von den besten Beamervorträgen auch Fotobücher.

About the Author
Born on January 19, 1809, Edgar Allan Poe has become synonymous with writing described as mysterious and macabre. Also credited with originating the detective-fiction genre, Poe is considered part of the American Romantic Movement. A very celebrated poet, short story writer, and Gothic novelist, Poe died in 1849.

Adrienne J. Odasso received her M.A. in Medieval Studies at the University of York in 2006 and is currently completing her Ph.D. in English at the University of York. She lives in London, UK.

Cheap dye used for cover and contains typos

Bought this book at Costco. In addition to the many typos that were pointed out by another reviewer, my copy's cover was painted with a cheap dye that was constantly rubbing off on my fingers. So the pages now all have nice blue fingerprints and smudges all over them. I had to wash my hands EVEY TIME after reading from this book, and the lather would also turn blue. I finally got so fed up that I got several wet paper towels and proceeded wipe off the offending blue dye. I don't know if I received a defective copy or if all copies of this book suffer from the same problem. I own several volumes in the Canterbury Classics series. Thus far, this appears to be the only book that has this problem. Quite a pity, as Poe has been one of my favorite authors since childhood and this looked like a beautiful anthology at an incredible price.

Shipping damage

A beautiful book. When it showed up though, one of the corners was damaged/dented and the sticker on the back was worn. This book wasn't very new, but it doesn't seem used either. The binding is still really tight, and the pages are in perfect condition. The dent may have been caused by the poor packaging (a bit of cardboard wrapped around the book and taped shut).

Excellent Collection

This book is beautiful, the leather binding is a very nice quality and the book brings Poe's stories and poems together all in one convenient place that will look nice on my bookshelf once I'm done for many years to come.

Sherlock Holmes leather bound book

The book was everything I expected, I received it in plastic wrap, the leather was the best. I was very excited when it arrived, I tore off the plastic and immediately started to read. I've always heard about Sherlock Holmes but never had a chance to read any of Conan Doyle's novels.

Sister loves it

I got this as a gift for my sister, a junior in high school. She absolutely adores it! In addition to Sherlock Holmes being a wonderfully written, diverting book, this one looks super pretty. It is beautifully bound. My sister is actually showing it off to her friends as the "best present she has ever gotten!"

Classic Stories about Human Nature

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes

These are the first twelve short stories about the most famous detective in fiction. They were written in the 1890s when illumination came from fire (candles, oil lamps, and gas). Local travel was by horse or foot. No telephones. Technology has advanced but human nature remains the same. The character of `Sherlock Holmes' was inspired by Doctor Joseph Bell, the famous medical professor in Edinburgh Scotland. Reading the original stories reminds you how good they are, much better than the many imitators. Greed is the motive for most of these stories. I wonder how many were adapted from long forgotten true crime cases?

*.A Scandal in Bohemia. A big, tall man visits Holmes on a secret mission. This nobleman is in a photograph with an actress, and this can endanger an arranged dynastic marriage. Holmes is given £1,000 for expenses [a small fortune then]. Holmes uses a trick to find a hidden valuable object.
*.The Red-Headed League. A man with blazing red hair visits Holmes with his problem of a lost well-paying job. Holmes visits his shop on a side street. A watch at night catches the burglar and saves the bank its fortune in French gold. Holmes explains his deductions. A man who works for half-wages?
*.A Case of Identity. A young woman wants to find a missing fiancé who disappeared before their wedding. Holmes figures out the fraud and why it was done. The law can't touch this scoundrel. [The impressions of a typewriter can identify each unique machine.]

*.The Boscombe Valley Mystery. Charles McCarthy was found dead by a lake, his son James was arrested as a suspect. Holmes thinks the son is innocent, but has a secret. Holmes studies the crime scene and collects the clues, then identifies the murderer. James was acquitted, a confession did not have to be used. Justice was served, not the law.
*.The Five Orange Pips. A young man visits Holmes for advice. He tells what happened to his uncle and father. Now he received the same message. Can Holmes save him and catch those responsible. Or will they answer to a higher power?
*.The Man With the Twisted Lip. Kate Whitney visits Dr. Watson about her missing husband, an opium addict. Watson finds her husband, then joins Holmes in a search for Neville St. Clair. Only a professional beggar could know what happened to him! Holmes succeeds in locating the missing man.

*.The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle. A man lost his hat and a goose in a street fight. Can the owner be found? The goose was cooked, the rightful owner received a replacement. Will an innocent man be convicted for a theft? No. Holmes shows mercy.
*.The Adventure of the Speckled Band. A young woman consults Holmes about her fears, her older sister died earlier. Why was her bedroom changed? What makes her stepfather so fierce? [Mad as a hatter?] Helen's life is saved, the guilty person falls into his own trap.
*.The Adventure of the Engineer's Thumb. A murderous attack severed the thumb of a young hydraulic engineer. He tells his story to Holmes. He was offered high pay for a few hours of work in secret. He had a narrow escape! Holmes takes him to Scotland Yard and they go to Eyford. But it is too late, the criminals escaped capture.

*.The Adventure of the Noble Bachelor. Lord St. Simon asks Holmes for advice on a runaway bride. Was there anything in her past to cause this? Holmes solves this mystery by following a back trail. [What does this say about the nobility?]
*.The Adventure of the Beryl Coronet. A tall, portly man visits Holmes. This banker loaned £50,000 to a nobleman who gave a beryl coronet as security. After it partly disappeared a relative was arrested. Can Holmes recover the lost gems and solve the crime? Yes, he explains what was overlooked. The guilty party will soon receive a more than sufficient punishment.
*.The Adventure of the Copper Beeches. A young woman asks for advice on changing jobs, she is offered very good pay. But she must cut her long hair short. Weeks later she sent a telegram to Holmes asking for help. Holmes arrives to solve the mystery. There is a happy ending.

Love this book

I love all books by Mansouri and Al-reemawi. I am helping a friend from Yemen learn English and she is helping me with my Arabic, the books are well structured, I wish they came with a CD.

Where did these guys learn about making language learning simple?

The arabic alphabet is in such small type I couldn't even begin to differentiate between the letters.

But wait, to survive I want to speak a few words. Must I go through the rather daunting task of learning a new written alphabet before I can speak words. I think if I had to learn the alphabet to read the word for "Help" I'd probably drown first.

A good size and a good add to others...

I bought 4 of these little travel books before moving to Saudi Arabia a year ago. I haven't found one that is perfect yet, but this one gets used more than the others - when I remember to take this book along and use it in a taxi, after reviewing that section, it is very useful. Same with the other scenarios - but it is not as easily used for random situations or for study... Wish it were revised in some manner but I can't offer how! If there were some pages where I could make notes it would be a more useful learning tool/companion.

About the Author
Ami Rubinger began his career as an illustrator for the daily newspaper Haaretz. He is currently an illustrator and cartoonist for the daily newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth. Rubinger has written and illustrated over 15 books, including many children’s titles, and has won numerous awards for his work. He resides in Tel Aviv.

Perfect choice for teaching colors and for reading aloud!

This is a great book about colors! The illustrations are vibrant and imaginative and are clear depictions of each color described. The elephants are adorable and strike just the perfect whimsical note as the author invites listeners to finish each rhyme with the correct color word. Each color has its own large spread. The author's solution to that pesky orange problem is a wonderfully clever way to wind things up on a beautiful color book that includes not only the primary colors, but also gray, purple, pink and black.

This is a perfect opportunity to include a little teaching in your story times with young preschoolers. Even the ones that already know their colors will enjoy finishing these rhymes for you. A great interactive opportunity that has a very nice flow and is as fun to read as it is educational. Don't miss this one. An elephant sized recommend!

This bright and beautifully illustrated story is sure to please the youngsters! It interacts with your child by colorfully illustrating the elephant with each phrase, "I dream of an elephant whose color is..." This fun book will definitely capture and keep your child's attention. I highly recommend this read :)

What better way to learn about colors!

As a parent I enjoyed reading books to/with my own children that stimulated their brains and made them think. I would read books about choosing books for kids and still do now as an elementary school library specialist. Thanks to Abbeville Press via Netgalley I have discovered a wonderful author/illustrator. His name is Ami Rubinger and his books are extraordinary. First is I Dream of an Elephant, a rhyming book about colors. Hints are given in the rhymes about the color but the reader has to fill in the blanks and children will love doing that. What a terrific way to explore colors.

Next we have Big Cat, Small Cat a book not just about cats. Written in rhyme it helps young ones stretch their vocabulary to come up with the descriptive words about the cats. The illustrations are adorable and the faces on the cats priceless. Lastly is Dog Number 1, Dog Number 10 which uses dogs and rhymes and dogs to teach children to count to 10 while filling in the blanks. All three books are creative and imaginative and will teach without children realizing they are learning. Recommended for toddlers through second graders and older for those learning English as a second language.

Lindsay Armstrong was born in South Africa. She grew up with three ambitions: to become a writer, to travel the world, and to be a game ranger. She managed two out of three! When Lindsay went to work it was in travel and this started her on the road to seeing the world. It wasn't until her youngest child started school that Lindsay sat down at the kitchen table determined to tackle her other ambition — to stop dreaming about writing and do it! Welding automotive components, body parts, and other pieces requires specific equipment and specialized skills. American Welding Society past president and welding expert, author Jerry Uttrachi reveals all major welding processes and techniques, so you can weld to repair and fabricate with advanced materials. TIG, MIG, oxyacetylene, and stick welding techniques are illustrated for a wide range of automotive applications, so you can complete advanced chassis, body, and engine welding projects. About the Author
Jerry Uttrachi has served as vice president of the American Welding Society. He is an avid car guy and has built his own '34 Ford hot rod. He is president of WA Technology, LLC. Uttrachi holds a master's degree in mechanical engineering and a master of science degree in management from New Jersey Institute of Technology. Uttrachi is a 2012 IAMA (International Automotive Media Awards) Bronze Medallion winner for this book.

Advanced Automotive Welding: THIS IS THE BOOK!

Having worked as a professional weldor for over 40 years, having welded all over the world, above ground, underwater, in the field and every other place one could imagine, I've always been interested in learning as much as possible about my chosen field. Well written books on welding are few and far between. Keeping a technical subject interesting and entertaining, while still being informative is an art in itself. Gerry Uttrachi is a master of that art in ADVANCED AUTOMOTIVE WELDING. The content of this book is possibly one of the best written and cogently assembled pieces of welding instruction that I've ever read.

I have literally dozens of books on welding that span a good 5 or 6 decades. Some of the better ones were written back in the 40's for training the wartime workers. It's amazing to me that it took over 60 years for a book to be published that is comprehensive and comprehendable, that explains in everyday language, the latest techniques in the welding arts and sciences. The coverage of the subject was more complete than I have ever seen. This is a classic, and sure to be a benchmark reference book for years to come.

I have recommended the book to my membership at our website and continue to promote it wherever I go.

If you are at all interested in improving your welding knowledge and skill set, ADVANCED AUTOMOTIVE WELDING is a must have book for your reference library.

A must have welding book

This book is titled "Advanced Automotive Welding" and it is that and more. It offers a beginner the details of what welding is and what it is capable of joining together. It provides a good reference for those individuals who use ARC welding as a refresher in MIG or TIG, or vice versa. In talking with a friend who teaches welding she commented that the book was an excellent book for teaching but she could not use it in her welding class only because the work Automotive was in the title and the college would not accept it for a beginners class. I think that this book is one that any welder should have and a definite requirement for anyone working on automobiles. This book gives answers to problems a person might run into while constructing or repairing vehicles. A must buy for any welders reference library.

A Truly Practical Book on Welding for Performance Cars

This new book by Jerry Uttrachi is one of the best I have ever read about welding for the automotive hobbyist - whether builder of cars from scratch or automotive restorer. It effectively combines basic facts and techniques for welding with practical instructions for producing various types of welded joints. The illustrations and photographs showing step-by-step procedures are excellent and really give a feel for what the job requires. Common projects such as street rod roll bars, trailer hitches, floor pans, etc., are covered in detail and with spot-on accuracy. Thermal cutting, so often used on car projects, is also covered thoroughly, as are inspection, arc straightening and other tricks of the trade. This book should be in the library of every automotive enthusiast.
