Fazreil Amreen is a kind of person who would say hi to you when you walk past him. He lives in the beautiful country of Malaysia.

Fazreil Amreen loves to exhibit art through his works. According to him, he is going to "make it big" wherever he goes. Being a video game player since the 8-bit era, Fazreil enjoys challenging games and his motto is that "nothing can stop him" in his virtual life.

Currently Fazreil is working at MIMOS Berhad, the national R&D organization. He got exposed to multiple disciplines of technology there and is proud to be a Software Configuration Management Engineer there. He chose open source to fill in the gaps of automation in his work. Apart from his daily development job, he also works to produce papers for conferences and new innovations.

At home, Fazreil lives with his parents Abdul Jalil and Farida Hanim together with his sister Fazreen Dharleila. He is thankful to have such a supporting family. He can't help but mention his cats who cause chaos and sniff his food.

Could have been much better

It was far less than I expected. The explanations in his examples to follow were poorly written and left out some key details. I learned more just clicking on buttons to see what happens and using YouTube. My one useful takeaway was the use of layers. Use them for every little detail.

Lacked Essential Explainations

I agree with David LeBlanc's review. The author glosses over the basics. For example, the author starts the book with his own hand sketched image of a boy wearing a backpack. The sketch was scanned and saved into its own file. The file was added to a transparent layer in GIMP. He doesn't explain anything about how it was scanned (format, alpha layer, etc). So how do you follow along without that file? Answer: You don't. The author skips over the process of selecting portions of the sketch and adding each part to it's own layer. He just tells you to create the layers and then displays a screen shot of the Layers window with the individual layers. If I knew how to create multiple layers, I wouldn't be reading this book if the first place.

"Go forth and make thy mistakes."

"Life has a funny way of creating its own tests. It throws curve balls that make you do and think and feel things that are in direct conflict with what you had planned and don't allow you operate in terms of black and white."

One Tiny Lie was an intense read filled with raw emotion, hot sexual tension and the dreaded love triangle. If you loved Ten Tiny Breaths, which I did, you will absolutely fall in love with this book.

"Normal is boring. Tequila, Livie. It makes wallflowers into butterflies."

Ever since Livie was 9 years old, her dad and her had her picture perfect life all planned out. So when he was killed in a tragic accident Livie felt the need to honor him by following through with their plan. She has lived the life she thought her dad would want her to. She is now attending the college her dad attended, following the career path they chose together and is dating Connor, the boy her dad would approve of. All that changed in a split second, when her sister shoved a Jell-O shot in her hand and the hot guy shoved his tongue down her throat. Does she really want that cookie cutter life that she planned for or does she want to live life the way she wants to? Does she take a gamble or does she stay with the safe bet?

Connor is the hot boy next door with the sexy Irish accent. His goal in life is to be an attorney just like his father. He is best friends, team mates and roomies with Ashton, and witnesses his daily womanizing ways. Luckily for Connor he has found Livie, the girl of his dreams and doesn't have to worry about all the row team groupies hanging around.

Ashton is the captain of the row team and the big stud on campus. When women throw themselves at him he has no problem giving them what they want. Everything was going as planned until she walked into his life and flipped his life around and completely changed his way of thinking. The only problem standing in his way is his past and all the demons that haunt him daily. Can he get past the thing that is holding him back from living his life, that one tiny lie?

The main characters are full of inner turmoil, struggling how to break free and live life the way they want to. It is truly amazing to see them break free and start to figure out who they are.

This book has everything you need to make it a no breaks, non-stop sit thru read. You have the virginal honor student in the Ivy League college, the all-star sporty womanizing man hunk and the boy next door all involved in one epic love triangle. Could this get any better?

It contained many not so innocent parts that will have your stomach getting all gooey with impure thoughts. This is a fabulous book by a fabulous author. I would highly recommend this book.

Cheating Is A No-No For Me!

"1. I'm brilliant 2. I'm charming 3. I'm hung like a thoroughbred 4. I've stopped all philandering 5. I'm highly skilled, as you've learned the other night. P.S. Stop staring at my hands. I know what you want me to with them."

The good: Fast, easy read. Plot was decent and characters were fairly likable separately.

The bad: Had some typical, common elements that I tend to see in New Adult books. The main two things though that turned me off the most were the love triangle and repeated cheating. Love triangles make me anxious and stressed while cheating pisses me off really bad.

My thoughts:
"Ten Tiny Breaths" had a lot of potential for me BUT... even though I liked the plot and the characters individually, I didn't like Ashton and Livie together. Their relationship was a constant back and forth whiplash in the face and their cheating was the nail in the coffin in my book. I can't stand characters who don't know what they want or if they do, they're too afraid or chicken sh*t to go and pursue it. Gah, I SWEAR I was practically like this during the entity of the story:

We draw hope from tales such as these...

In One Tiny Lie, we finally get to hear Livie's story...and though certainly not as damaged as her sister Kacey...Livie has not escaped the trauma of her childhood unscathed. While at college and finally away from her sister and friends and all that is familiar, she must start to question herself...who she really is and who she wants to be. We have another set of great secondary characters. Connor & Reagan, Grant & Ty and especially Dr. Staynor...unorthodox in the extreme but such a heart! Add in an amazingly hot and (of course) damaged Ashton and we have a firestorm brewing. (I'll tell a secret...I think that I even fell a little bit in love with Ashton)

It's no secret that I love flawed and damaged characters...I love to see them work and grow and overcome their obstacles...whether genuine or psychological or both. I love the happy ever afters just that little bit more for the extra angst and struggle. Truth be told..I think that each and every one of us is flawed in one way or another...and we draw hope from tales such as these.

I can't recommend this series highly enough...I absolutely loved it...and if anything that I've said appeals to you, you'll probably love it as well.

Norman Gash was born in India in 1912. In 1933 he took a First in Modern History at St John's College, Oxford. During the Second World War he served in military intelligence and rose to the rank of major. In 1953 he published Politics in the Age of Peel, and after two years at the University of Leeds he was appointed Professor of History at St Andrews, a position he held until 1980. His other publications included The Age of Peel (1968); Reaction and Reconstruction in English Politics, 1832-1852 (1966); Lord Liverpool (1984); Pillars of Government (1986); and Aristocracy and People: England 1815-1865 (1979). He was appointed CBE in 1989, and died in 2009.

This book definitely provides A LOT of information about wonderful people, projects and ideas curently going on in engaged bouddhist movement. It helped me to fill part of a promising worldwide movement, exciting in many ways : this is one of the active scene of the transformative assimilation of the East by the West. Many references to other books allow to deepen the prefered subjects. This book will detroy the widespread idea that bouddhists spend there time looking at their belly button looking for some unhealthy nothingness. And also if you are buddhist, it really make you think your relationship to the world by facing the good questions : does buddhist engagement mean something ? is engagement in itself a practice or even a yana ? Sadru Jetha was born and raised in Zanzibar under British rule. Studying law at Dublin University and philosophy at the University of London, he practised law in Tanzania; lectured in the philosophy of law in England; and immigrated to Canada in the 1980s. His work has been published in various literary magazines, anthologized in Due West, and broadcast on CBC’s Alberta Anthology.

Sam van Schaik received his PhD in Tibetan Buddhist Literature from the University of Manchester, England. He currently works at the British Library's international Dunhuang Project in London, researching early Tibetan manuscripts, and is the author of Tibet: A History (Yale 2011).

Fine analysis; great translations of Lingpa's Termas/works

This is a wonderful (fairly advanced) book, on Dzogchen with considerable material on Mahamudra woven in (see below). It addresses Jigme Lingpa's "Longchen Nyingtig" cycle of Termas (Treasure Texts) including discovered texts, texts resulting from "pure visions" of 14th century Dzogchen master Longchenpa while Jigme Lingpa (18th century) was in retreat, and supporting texts authored by Jigme Lingpa. All but one of these texts has been included in both English and Tibetan. Van Schaik's introductory material focuses upon certain main themes: simultaneous vs. gradual approaches to Dzogchen (the Treasure Texts focus mostly on the former and the Supporting Texts mainly on the latter), the relationship of Jigme Lingpa to his contemporaries and with Vajrayana (Tibetan Buddhism) vs. Dzogchen vs. Mahamudra. His emphasis on gradualist approaches is explained as a practical approach and he attempts to reconcile the two. I don't think Lingpa totally succeeds in this, however. By taking a gradualist approach, he incorporates much basic Vajrayana material (including extensive preliminary practices) which are, at least on the surface, antithetical to the Dzogchen view (being dualistic, for example). He also uses the Mahamudra 12 stage descriptive process and provides parallels with other systems (e.g. the Prajnaparamita or Perfection of Wisdom sutras). The dichotomy between simultaneous and gradual parallels that between immanence (Buddha nature) & distinction (transcendence)-a situation not unlike that of the theistic Western religions. While Jigme Lingpa relies considerably upon his discarnate master Longchenpa (many quotes are provided), his emphasis upon Vajrayana practices goes way beyond, IMHO, that of Longchenpa (Longchen Rabjam)-as discussed by van Schaik.

Van Schaik has done us a great service in providing translations of these texts. The Termas include discussions of the mind vs. mind itself, wisdom/gnosis vs. emptiness (not the same), and use of symbols (p. 137: "the host of male and female bodhisattvas who are the pure senses, sense objects, and times"). The pure visions somewhat parallel the Termas (p. 168: "The original general ground is a state like the sky; the ground's manifestation, gnosis, is like clouds dispersing in the sky"). The supporting texts include a number of wonderful quotes for my collection such as:

pp. 209-10: "having distinguished between reflexive awareness (which is all-penetrating primordial wisdom) and mind (which is nescient conceptualization and delusive forms), you should maintain freedom from limits in the state of the vast spacious expanse of gnosis, without following after it. Through this, the imprints of the conceptual mind are purified, and errors and straying are cut off."

p. 236: "The agent of the recognition of thoughts and emotions should be put to one side without giving him any importance like the unconcerned disinterest of an old man watching a child at play."

p. 237: "Appearances, emptiness, and union are just words, names, and terms."

p. 238: "Even this Vajra song is like the play of optical illusions."

In summary, this is a book for the serious Dzogchen student to keep as reference.

A must have

This book is a miles stone for the western understanding of the Longchen Nyingtig. The collection translated here is the entire Trechod section from the Longchen Nyingtig, though it does not include the Yeshe Lama which is the instruction manual for the Dzochen section. The Yeshe Lama has been translated as a restricted text and those who are seious about practice can find that translation else where.
What we have here is really a great first translation of very profound texts, truely heartdrops. My only problem with the traslations them selves is that tibetan words that have been standard for the seious student has been given western terms which I feel add confusion and is some cases become a distraction, for example the use of the word Gnosis over the term Rigpa.
Overall though this is really something amazing and should be purchased by anybody who is seious about the Nyingma trandition or Dzogchen. There is alot to work with in these translations!

I savored every moment of reading this wonderful collection of studies of and about Jigme Lingpa's (JL) life and teachings. Van Schaik skillfully presents JL's life and teachings within the context of the Nyingma Longchen Nyingtig Dzogchen lineage (JL's historical place as well as personal approach) with helpful, detailed introductory commentary (about 130 pgs) and clear translations of many of JL writings (the heart of the book with about 100 pages of 10 different "treasure texts", "pure visions" and "supporting texts"), concluding with about 70 pages of the transliterated Tibetan texts he worked from.

(By the way, as a note of clarification, the discussion that makes up the first half of this book is centered around the issue of "simultaneous and gradual methods of Dzogchen practice". Many of us Western students may fancy ourselves ripe for the "simultaneous" or intuitive approach since here we are drawn to study such a teaching as Dzogchen (although that evidence alone would rule out such an assumption!), but it may help to remember (and neither inflate or discourage our egos), that who JL considers the beings with the very sharpest faculties capable of the spontaneous approach are the rare ones like Garab Dorje, Indrabhuti and Padmasambhava... The rest of us (not yet liberated beings) are somewhere in the gradualist camp!)

I would think this text would by now be considered a classic for Western students of Dzogchen, as it combines Western scholarship of the highest order with the clear and direct blessing of Jigme Lingpa, one of Tibet's greatest masters. Just as Jigme Lingpa received so many of his blessings from the disembodied master Longchenpa, we have here a chance to meet, see and hear Jigme Lingpa. Ehmaho!

Naughty History of the Penthouse!

This is the story of the Penthouse Nightclub in Vancouver, B.C. by Aaron Chapman. I appeared there in about 1980 and had no idea of the colorful history of the nightclub. The Penthouse has been in business since 1947 and is still in business and still run by the Filippone family. The book is well researched with lots of great photos and newspaper clippings. A VERY interesting read! The Filippone family broke down a lot of barriers in Vancouver sharing their hospitality with some of the greatest entertainers in the world including Sammy Davis Jr., the Mills Brothers, Frank Sinatra and more. They fought the legal system (winning sometimes and losing sometimes) to stay in business but they always supported their community and each other. A colorful story of the law and the Filippone family.

Terrific inside scoop on this piece of Vancouver history

Having grown up in Vancouver, I'd been hearing about this book for some time from my friends and finally had a chance to read it on my kindle this summer. This part of Vancouver's past has a little bit of Vegas, a little bit of mafia and is very interesting throughout. I was surprised at first at how factually it is written, but came to appreciate that is was more historical or journalistic than anything mean to embellish what is already a pretty unreal story. Fun and easy read.

It was interesting. Purchased it because I was by the club when I visited Vancouver this spring. It was a bit sparse when it came to much history. Also little expansion about celebs who had visited there.
