About the Author
Lisa Wagner is a freelance writer, graphic designer, and creative consultant who loves to cook, eat great food, travel, and listen to music. She worked extensively in the travel industry marketing and creating promotional material for various northern resorts, which included writing about food. She is the founder of the Books In the Woods program and also conducts walking and historical tours in the Twin Cities. She loves to cook with fresh, local, and organically grown ingredients. In the summer she grows many of her own vegetables and herbs. She lives in Saint Paul, MN, and has two sons, who also love to cook. Dinner is always the highlight of the day; the family cooks together, eats together, and enjoys sharing cooking adventures at home and on the road.

Great cookbook for the young inspiring chef

Bought this book as a Christmas gift for my young nephew who has taken several cooking classes in school. The book has beautiful pictures of the ingredients, pantry items, cookware and final product. It well written and has easy to follow step-by-step instructions for the novice chef. I think Mom would also use it to introduce her children to international cuisine.

This is a great little cookbook for anyone who would like their children or grandchildren to learn how to cook and in the process also learn about international foods and develop tastes for some different foods.
It contains good information on the basic rules of cooking such as; prep work, safety and germs. There are key symbols throughout the book that give warnings for; hot (heat) stuff, sharp knives, and nut alert and more adventurous foods. Pages are included with photos of the tools needed and terms and illustrations for slice, mince, mash, etc.
Foods included are from Mexico, France, Italy, Africa, Middle East, China and Japan. There is also a glossary for terms.
There is help given in the book with photos and directions; but sometimes it is forgotten or assumed that a young cook would know how best to remove a seed from an avocado or how to dry lettuce. It would be nice if these simple hints were also included.
We made amazing Mexican rice, sensational sesame noodles, and Chinese fried rice. They all turned out very good and my grandson enjoyed making them and learning some new recipes.
This is an excellent book to learn cooking and try some good international recipes at the same time.
