I bought the "updated" 2013 version.

This book clearly wasn't updated. I live in the region and some of the trails are not passable. A small disclaimer is not enough.. Some of this terrain is rough and not to be trifled with..
Stick with the day hikes and do further research before heading out on the big hikes..

Exploring the wilder side of Big Sur

My husband and I love traveling to Big Sur and have spent a great deal of time there...but we had only scratched the surface of what the area has to offer. This hiking book was a great way to explore beyond the popular spots and find trails and beaches we didn't know about beforehand. The sections on hiking trails are easy to follow and the tidbits on local geology and botany are very interesting too. Highly recommended for anyone who is interested in wandering off Hwy 1 and tapping into the wilder side of Big Sur...we are looking forward to exploring much more with the help of this book!

Essential purchase.

I bought this book before heading up the coast for a camping/roadtrip. I chose this guide because I thought it was priced well for it's rating and I'm glad I did! The book provides excellent guidance in regards to restaurants, camp sites, points of interest and hiking routes. It has a really fantastic mix of short and long hikes to chose from. There were a number of moments when my friend and I checked the book just in time to find a fantastic hike or lookout that we otherwise would have missed. Also, many of the entries include local history and general information about the sites you visit.
