Crisp and concise to get started

The best thing I like about Instant Google Drive Starter is that it is a very good concise book with a crisp note and completely explained with help of diagrams. I always prefer to understand with help of diagram as it can express thousand words.
I will like to recommend this book for everybody who wants to use as a quick reference or initial starter guide.

No Longer Worth Its Price Tag Premium

I purchased this book and read it cover to cover before walking up to a computer and applying what I learned with the book. It took about two hours to read with short breaks; it was an easy and simple read. Unfortunately when I reached the computer I was faced with an interface completely different than the one described in the book. As of early July 2014 there is a "New Google Drive" replacing the old interface described in the book. Yes there is a warning in the book specifying that the interface may change in the future, however this is more of an overhaul of the UI. It pretty much kills the value of a starter guide whose main value comes from guiding you through the menus and their subtleties. Although I bought the Kindle edition, it still was a steep price to pay for a starter guide that is already way out of date. Even some of the terminology is no longer relevant (i.e. sharing vs incoming). This book should be deeply discounted from its current price tag, it is out of date.
There is stuff I just can't recall finding in the book. For example the book states that a shared document with Editor permissions allows the recipient of the "share" to also share with others UNLESS specified otherwise. But it never gets into the details of changing this default. Also Chromebook is never mentioned in the book. And Linux is mentioned in name once but never really addressed. Is there a syncing app for Linux or Chromebook ?
Although not a drive feature per se: a very common usage of the drive would be how to get your Android phone to sync up pictures straight to the drive (with or without Google+), something Dropbox does very well. Or why I should not put my music on this drive? I could not find that addressed in the book. There is too much of the common day to day activities that is not addressed.
This book should be in the deep discount bin. I'd get one of the free ones instead. One the positive side the Kindle formatting of this book is quite good when used on a Tablet (Nexus 7 in my case).

Great for beginners and advanced users alike

As the title suggests, this book will get users started on Google Drive even if they have absolutely no "cloud computing" experience. BUT, even if you're already a daily Drive user (like me), there's a ton of great info in here plus more than a few little-known tips and tricks. Experienced users can bang through the book in a couple of hours, so it takes very little time to pick up some excellent info. The read is breezy despite how instructional the material is, which is a credit to the author. Speaking of the writer, he's a senior engineer on the Drive team at Google, so you can be sure nobody knows the service better than he does and the lessons you're getting are straight from the source.
