Witty, Gripping, and Honest
By Christian Review of Books
Skylar isn't the same girl she used to be. She wants to be a good daughter, a good sister, a good girlfriend . . . but she isn't so sure she even knows who she is.

OUT WITH THE IN CROWD is way more than a sequel--this is a book that dives into the nitty-gritty of a young woman's heart, both the noble goals and the ugly hang-ons of her former self. It doesn't just pull you in--it connects you with the Skylar in you.

Stephanie Morrill is a talented new voice who has really outdone herself with this new book. Witty, honest, and soul-wrenching, OUT WITH THE IN CROWD won't let you go once you turn the first page.

The story will update anyone who hasn't read the first book in the series, but since it's a continuation of Skylar's story, I do recommend getting your hands on ME, JUST DIFFERENT first so you can enjoy the full rediscovery of our once-popular friend. And you'll be on pins and needles for the final book in The Reinvention of Skylar Hoyt trilogy, SO OVER IT, that hits shelves this summer.

These are the perfect books for the teens in your life, but fair warning--you adults out there might just get caught up in it too. You'll be amazed at how quickly she drags you back to the drama of high school! The wit is hilarious. The plot is gripping. The characters are so honest it makes you want to take a closer look at yourself. Young Adult doesn't get any better than this!

Great Sophomore YA Read
By Deborah
I had really enjoyed reading the first book in this series last year and was greatly looking forward to this read. Multi-cultural characters are few and far between in Christian fiction so I'm really glad that at least Christian YA has been very active in changing that. Therefore I'm also really glad that Skylar is portrayed accurately on the cover with a model that does look like the half Hawaiian/half Caucasian that she is said to be in the book. I felt that the storyline was relevant to teens - dealing with teen pregnancy, parental issues and relationship issues. Even though this is a Christian book, I did not feel in anyway the story to be preachy at all.

Skylar's parents got on my nerves several times, especially her mother. It annoys me when parents are going through problems but refuse to talk about it with their children. Even if the argument was between the two adults they should have realized that this was going to affect the entire family and inform Skylar and Abbie about what was going on. As it happened, they were both quite immature in their actions and decisions. The biggest one for me was that they missed out on Abbie's doctor's appointment that they both swore they wouldn't miss. Then they wondered why she's debating about giving the baby up for adoption. Actually that bit bothered me while reading. Abbie is very hesitant about thinking she can raise the child by herself at such a young age. The home she lives in currently is not stable at all and the father of the baby is not in the picture. Yet everyone wants her to keep the baby and gets irritated whenever she brings up adoption. I understand where that storyline was going but at the same time it made it sound as if adoption from teen pregnancy was not what God wanted.

I was so glad to see the ending with Skylar and Connor that was portrayed in the story. Connor's actions really pissed me off throughout the book and I would have been really angry if he would have gotten away with it. I was just really glad that this situation was portrayed and played out the way it did in the book. Too often in Christian fiction, guys are always given the "get out of jail free card" and always get away with things leaving the girl to apologize and be the one that takes the blame. I applaud the author for showing a more realistic situation and one that hopefully teen girls will learn from and take note in their own life.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. Skylar is a character I can relate to and I enjoyed reading her story. It's extremely realistic and the characters are a lot more mature than in other teen fiction. I really cannot wait until the third book comes out.

FYI: This book is the second book in the series and while it can be read as a stand alone, I really would recommend reading the first book in the series, Me Just Different.

Out with the In Crowd
By C. Kendall
This book really made me think about a lot of different things, much more so than many books do. I like a book that makes me think and brings out emotion in me. My first thought was the similarity between Skylar's transformation and my own, although I was in my mid-twenties when I decided it was time to reinvent myself and get my life on track. I was a hardcore party-girl and I could relate to Skylar's experiences with all the life changes that take place when you turn your life over to Christ. It really does feel almost like too much at first, but it is all worth it as Skylar learns.

I really do wish I had read the first book in this series so I could see Skylar's life before Jesus was a part of it. I felt the author did do a good job of getting the reader up to speed on Skylar's past, her friends, and why she made the decision she made, but I do feel like I missed out by not reading the first book. I found Skylar to be a very likeable girl and I wanted so much for her life to become joyful with Jesus at her side. I don't know what Skylar was like before, but the author made her very easy to like and root for.

One question I asked myself several times while reading this book is "Is high school really this dramatic these days?" It was hard to believe the stress Skylar was under, not just at home, but at school as well. She had to face things that would drive many adults over the edge. I really admired her for not giving up. Even when her tender, new faith was being questioned, God always came through and proved to her that she could trust Him.
Overall, this book has many lessons for teenagers. It is written exceptionally well and is a great conversation starter for parents and their teenagers. I am really looking forward to the next book in this series, but I highly recommend getting a copy of the first book, Me, Just Different in addition to Out with the In Crowd so nothing is missed.
