Angèle Sancho Passe is a consultant and writer in early education with more than thirty years of experience. Her work focuses on early literacy, school readiness, and the transition to kindergarten. Angèle teaches at the University of Minnesota and at the Minnesota Child Care Resource and Referral Network. She is co-president of Minnesota Association for the Education of Young Children.

Great book for providers!

This is a wonderful read and a must have for child care professionals! Each chapter (which can be read in any order to suit your needs) is well thought out in that they are scaffolded so you can easily understand the topic. Chapters end with questions meant to foster thoughtful, and productive, discussion among colleagues and families. Definitely one of those books you will want when setting up a curriculum for your center and (especially for those with an established center) one you will go back to for continuing an intential approach to readying children for Kindergarten.

A family-friendly kindergarten preparation tool

What a useful resource for parents of pre-kindergarten children and the kindergarten teachers they will meet. Passe has ably summarized the information families will need: typical development, characteristics and abilities of young children; a clear description of what "school readiness" entails; and a peek at some kindergarten classrooms to illustrate how classes differ. Parents will find the appendix check lists on family/child readiness most helpful along with the "literacy-rich" assessment of home or child care settings. I recommend this book not only for parents, but also as a practical gift from a grandparent to support the kindergarten preparation of her grandchildren.
